Core Facilities

The goal of the IMP/IMBA core facilities is the provision of cutting edge services to the members of the institutes. Already in 1988, when the IMP was opened, centralized services, e.g. DNA-sequencing, Oligonucleotide synthesis, or media preparation, were offered. Over the years, a variety of additional services/facilities have been established. Detailed information can be found on the core facility home page(s).
All core facilities provide comprehensive training of users, help with experimental designs, collection and disclosure of expert knowledge, as well as evaluation of novel technologies and techniques and the implementation of those. Some of the technologies, especially those which need well trained and dedicated staff, are offered with "full service", which means that the facility personnel performs the actual work and delivers the results to the scientists.
In contrast to most other research institutions, the core facilities at IMP/IMBA operate on a "free access" basis, which means that no billing, except for certain experiment-related consumables, occurs. Therefore, the start of an experiment is possible nearly without red tape.

CAMPUS SCIENCE SUPPORT FACILITIES
IMBA Scientists also have the benefit to use Scientfic Services which are integrated in the Campus Science Support Facilities (CSF). Services include the Next Generation Sequencing Facility, the Structural Biology Facility, the Vienna Drosophila RNAi Center (VDRC), the Ultra Resolution Imaging Facility and others.
The CSF is located directly on the Vienna Biocenter Campus and is a non-for-profit organisation funded by the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research and the City of Vienna. IMBA holds 15% of the CSF.
