Being part of IMBA means doing research in an exciting and professional organisation. Working at the institute offers you the chance to develop your career in a very vibrant scientific enviroment and doing world-class and state-of-the-art research.
The research environment is further enriched by close collaborations with our sister institute IMP, with which we share infrastructure and scientific events.
The generous funding of IMBA by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the IMP by Boehringer Ingelheim attracts excellent international group leaders, PhD students and postdocs and gives you the freedom to do high quality research. Still, many postdoctoral fellows have their own grants. The high variety of scientific services (e.g. histology, sequencing, biooptics, bioinformatics, protein chemistry) make your life easier in terms of supporting you or at least giving you very sophisticated advice. The fact that both institutes are part of the Vienna Biocenter Campus (VBC) results in close collaborations with other members on the campus like the Gregor Mendel Institute (GMI), the Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL) or university labs, and guarantees a high diversity of expertise.
Apart from the optimal infrastructure, it is easy to maintain contacts with your colleagues in a relaxing atmosphere at one of the social events like the regular "get togethers", the institute outing, or the annual postdoc retreat. Although the working language at the institute is English, IMBA organizes German lessons on-site for all employees wishing to attend, so that life outside the institute may be equally as fulfilling.
If you feel encouraged to bring in your passion, expertise and creativity to this hot spot of science, you are welcome to contact a group leader of your choice.
